Alistair here! Leave me a message, and I'll get back to you. Unless I've been kidnapped by giants, in which case--[in a higher-pitched voice]--please rescue me?
[ There's a lot of clattering, noise and general disarray sounds coming from their joint bathroom where Hawke is experimenting with the new technology. Having just come back from a war she had crashed, slept for hours, and woken up feeling the dire need to crawl into a bath and scrub herself clean until her skin was red and sore.
Of course, walking into the side room, she realised there was no metal tub for her to use. Instead, there was simply some strange magic that allowed her to turn a lever and generate warm water, enough for her to shower for as long as she liked. Without even getting in, half-dressed in her traditional finery and eyes alight, she opens the door to Alistair's room without hesitation and simply beams, beyond thrilled. ]
Have you seen the magic that we have been given, your highness? You really should come and look, it makes bathing seem much less like the chore people call it.
[Alistair glances up from the book he's currently examining--a newly acquired history of Asgard, because it pays to be prepared--to find his suitemate standing in a state of disarray, grinning at him madly.
A state of disarray showing off a lot of leg, Maker. Eyes on the face, eyes on the face, and try not to look startled.]
I'm not king of anything here, you know. You can just call me Alistair.
[They're clearly going to be spending a fair amount of time together, as evidenced by the fact that she's in his room in the first place. He can't imagine being your Highnessed by her; he's still getting used to it in general.]
[ She crosses her arms over her chest, almost a little amused. She knows exactly what it's like when a person is deliberately not looking at her - Anders did it often enough for her to be an expert, really - and it was almost kind of sweet that his Royal Highness was keeping his eyes up.
Sweet, yes, and charming, but also funny. ]
You're still King where I'm from, it seemed polite. I could call you Dog Lord if you're really sour on formality.
[ She walks over to the bed, sitting down quite casually and crossing her legs before she leans forward. ]
It has a lever that you turn and it simply gives you hot water. No boiling or fires needed.
Dog Lord? [He pouts. Very kingly.] I don't smell that bad.
[He knows he could use a bath, but when you're on the road and battling, you put concerns like "is my hair getting a little too sweaty" aside for later consideration. And when he got back, he just wanted to sleep in a real bed and read up on everything they're doing here. Bathing's going to happen eventually, though! Really!
Especially once he hears the good news.]
We're going to have to spend more time together, Hawke. I can't tell if you're pulling my leg or not.
Maybe not, but you are from Ferelden. That's what we're called now, didn't you know?
[ She wishes she could prove a point by summoning her mabari in, but Bee didn't follow her on this adventure. Perhaps another time - he must have experience enough with them. She'd heard the stories about the Hero of Ferelden and how they travelled with the to-be King to face the Blight. ]
I assure you, Alistair, if I was pulling your leg you'd know. [ She probably shouldn't flirt with a king, but how could she help herself? ] Go ahead and try it. It's like having a mage friend warm the water just for you ---
['Everyone else in Kirkwall,' he assumes the answer is, but he's never left Ferelden before. And it's not an epithet that has a great deal of currency in Denerim, from what he's seen so far.
But never mind that, he wants to see this hot water of hers. As he's walking into the bathroom, he calls over his shoulder.]
[ Hawke rolls over on the bed, watching him absently. She's curious to see how he reacts to the magic of the bathing chamber they've been given - and, of course, getting to watch a handsome man walk away has never been something she's been loathe to do.
Finally, she sits up again, swinging her legs over and walking to hover at the door. ]
A friend of mine. Mage, Grey Warden, pain in the arse and the best damn healer this side of the Waking Sea.
Oooh. Now I can't wait to meet the foreign dignitaries.
[Once he's in the bathroom, he gives the tub a look. It's built into the wall, which is interesting enough. And there's the lever, and also a swishy curtain he assumes is merely for privacy. It makes an odd crinkling noise as he brushes past it to reach said lever, unlike any fabric he's seen before. Iiiiiiinteresting.
When water starts hurtling out of a metal...dispenser thingy into the tub, he jumps back in surprise. Water! So much water! And when he hesitantly reaches over to touch the gushing torrent of water, it's warm.]
Andraste's flaming sword--! That's amazing.
[So yeah, he forgot about Anders for the moment. We'll come back to that.]
You're going to love the Knight Commander. I can feel it.
[ Hawke grins as she watches him explore, a little more wary than she'd been - but she's always been an "action first, think about it later" type of woman. It's what got her into half of the messes she found herself in at home in the first place and she had done her best to not get involved as much here, but... There's only so much you can do.
Of course, his curse has her laughing and she lifts a hand to cover her mouth, gathering herself before she nods. ]
I wonder what other magics they have here - more than what I could've imagined in the Circle.
[There's a certain resignation to his tone, but it's tempered by the lopsided grin he shoots her. Having discovered that he can fill his own bath without the help of a single servant, he turns to the basin and finds more water just waiting to be turned on. Amazing! And there's soap, too, surprisingly white and pleasant-smelling.
Well, time to nose around. He starts opening cupboards and looking in.]
If they can make water warm without any effort, they can probably do it to everything else, too. Are there any levers on the bed?
Oh, yes. She's a delight. A wonder, actually, that she hasn't contacted you already. I think you'd be rather good friends.
[ This is all a little hilarious to her, considering that she knows for a fact that most people never get along with the Knight Commander, not even her own Templars. Shifting, though, she abandons him to play around with the taps and levers in the bathroom, shifting down to peek her head under the bed to see if there's anything there. ]
I can't see any. Though, really, what could they possibly do to a bed? [ She pauses before she peeks out, grinning. ] I'll ask Isabela next time I see her. I'm sure she could think of something.
